2012 Summer training session
9 to 21 July
François-Xavier Roth, conductor
Rehearsals at the Grand Théâtre de Provence from 9 to 19 July
In 2010 the Aix Festival and the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (OJM) joined forces with the Festival's resident orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, to create an Orchestral Academy. Among the Academy's aims was to create an orchestra that would get together in July for the Aix Festival and act as a symphonic orchestral training-ground for young professionals. This is the way the OJM's summer training sessions will be held in the future. The orchestra is supervised by a 9-musicians pedagogical team from the LSO who play alongside the young musicians in concerts directed by internationally renowned conductors.
In 2012, the orchestra brings together ninety-two advanced students recruited by the OJM in conservatories and National Youth Orchestras from the PACA region and the Mediterranean, and also nine professional musicians from the LSO. At the end of the rehearsal period, two concerts are given at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and in Marseille.
