Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (OJM)
Auditions and 2012 summer training session in partnership with the Aix Festival and the London Symphony Orchestra
In 2010 the Aix Festival and the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra joined forces with the Festival's resident orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, to create an Orchestral Academy.
The Academy's aim was to create an orchestra that would get together in July for the Aix Festival and act as a symphonic orchestral training-ground for young professionals. This is the way the OJM's summer training sessions will be held in the future.
The orchestra is supervised by a 9-person team of teachers drawn from the LSO who play alongside the young musicians in concerts directed by internationally renowned conductors.
From 9 to 21 July 2012 the orchestra will bring together 92 advanced students recruited by the OJM from music schools and national youth orchestras in the Provence-Alpes-Côtes d'Azur area and in the Mediterranean and the 9 professional musicians from the LSO. At the end of the rehearsal period François-Xavier Roth will conduct 2 concerts at the Aix Festival and in Marseille. The program : a recent creation by a young Romanian composer, Vlad Maistorovici, a short piece with singers written by Maurice Ravel and a large symphonic work by Richard Strauss.
The recruitment auditions for the OJM’s summer training session will be held in february, on the 9 in the Music Conservatory of Toulon, on the 10 in Marseille, on the 11 in the Music Academy of Monaco and in Nice’s conservatory, on the 12 in Aix-en-Provence, and on the 18 in Avignon. In the Mediterranean Basin, in addition to the auditions of 2011, they will be held during the first quarter in Portugal, Lebanon, Malta, Greece and Algeria.
This collaboration with the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and the LSO is accompanied by actions promoting professional integration of the OJM's students and by an international professional meeting about new pedagogies which is happening during the orchestra summer training session.
